The Winning Scheme: Terraced Residences @ Punggol Waterway
group8asia + Aedas Pte Ltd
The design concept for the winning scheme was inspired by the terraced rice fields of Asia, which gives the development an unique identity and will be an iconic landmark along the Punggol Waterway.

Design Intentions
One of the key features of the design is the spatial connection between the landscape areas in the hexagonal void courtyards and the residential blocks.

The stepped terraces enable the scale of the residential blocks to adapt to different urban conditions, creating different dimensions from different points of view. From the Waterway, they adopt a more pedestrian scale and are perceived as multiple terraces. From Punggol Central, they are high-rise towers. Finally, from the void between the wings, it is a building with open courtyards.

The facades are composed of prefabricated elements with the potential to be designed for different orientation needs. For example, the inclined external elements could serve as acoustical barrier for the courtyards. These elements could also be planters in which residents can naturally participate in forming their own green facade. The concrete panels between windows are painted in 5 different hues of green which animate the facade by identifying with its green surrounding.

The modularity of the dwelling units provides vast choices of use and modification in relation with the evolution of the family unit. The dwelling units are also designed to maximise the key views of the site. All the rooms of the day have vantage views towards the waterway, the jungle courtyards or the palm gardens. All main living spaces have direct access to greenery enabling cross ventilation within each unit.
